Online Safety Parent Meeting
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Online Safety Meeting today. We hope you found the session useful and informative.
During the workshop, we discussed the latest research on children’s internet use, including how much time young people spend online and the challenges parents face in managing screen time. We explored the risks linked to social media such as communication with strangers, cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, oversharing personal information, and the growing trend of children using multiple accounts. TikTok and Instagram were discussed as key platforms to be aware of, with practical examples of potential risks.
Online gaming was another focus, with discussion around risks as well as guidance on understanding PEGI age ratings.
Lastly we also touched on the use of AI tools by children, the importance of regular conversations, modelling positive behaviour, setting clear rules, and using technical parental controls such as Google Family Link and Microsoft Family.
Parents were signposted to a range of resources including:
-
Internet Matters for parental controls and app guides
-
Common Sense Media for reviews of apps and games
-
LGFL Gaming Hub for gaming advice and activities
-
ParentSafe for device-specific safety guides
We would like to thank everyone again for joining us.
Further advice, resources and guidance are available on the Online Safety section of our school website.
